Work out your real weekly pay - penalty rates and all.
A free calculator that adds Saturday, Sunday, evening and public-holiday penalty rates and casual loading to your base rate, by award. Enter your hours and see what you should actually be paid - every multiplier shown.
Who it's for
For shift workers who want to check their pay
If you work weekends, evenings or public holidays in retail, hospitality or fast food, your pay isn't a flat hourly rate - it's your base plus a stack of penalty rates and, for casuals, loading. It's easy to be underpaid without noticing.
This calculator rebuilds your week the way the award does, so you can compare the total against your payslip and spot a shortfall.

What you get
Every multiplier, laid out
Enter your base rate and the hours you worked on each type of day, and the calculator shows the rate for each shift (with the percentage), the pay for those hours, and the weekly total before tax - plus the extra you earned from penalties and loading.
Nothing is hidden, so you can take the breakdown to a manager or payroll if the numbers don't match.

Why trust these numbers
From the Fair Work pay guides
The penalty-rate multipliers and casual loading come from the current Fair Work Ombudsman pay guides for the relevant awards - retail (MA000004), hospitality (MA000009) and fast food (MA000003) - not from other pay-calculator sites.
Every rate shows the date it was last checked, and we update after each Annual Wage Review (1 July). This is an estimate to help you check your pay - not legal or payroll advice, and we're not affiliated with the Fair Work Ombudsman. Confirm your classification and rates with your award and employer.

What is a penalty rate in Australia?
A penalty rate is a higher pay rate that applies when employees work outside ordinary hours — on weekends, public holidays, evenings or overtime shifts. Penalty rates are set in Modern Awards by the Fair Work Commission and vary by award, classification and day. Most retail, hospitality, fast food and healthcare workers are covered by an award with penalty rates.
How much extra do I get paid on a Sunday in Australia?
It depends on your award. Under the General Retail Industry Award, full-time and part-time employees receive 200% (double time) on Sundays; casuals receive 225%. Under the Restaurant Industry Award, Sunday rates are lower — typically 125–175%. Enter your award and classification in the penalty rates calculator above for the exact multiplier that applies to you.
What is casual loading in Australia?
Casual loading is a 25% addition to the minimum hourly rate that compensates casual employees for the lack of paid leave entitlements (annual leave, sick leave). The 25% loading is set by the Fair Work Act and applies on top of whatever base rate and penalty rate applies to the shift. The calculator adds casual loading automatically when you select casual employment.
Do penalty rates apply on public holidays?
Yes — public holiday penalty rates are the highest in most awards, typically 225–250% for permanent employees and higher for casuals. Employees who work on a public holiday are entitled to the penalty rate or, in some cases, a substitute day off instead. Public holidays vary by state; the calculator applies the correct penalty for the holiday you select.
